it's been a fairly eventful afternoon... the first epidural didn't work. it seemed to work at first but for whatever reason it didn't work after about 10 minutes. so they tried different stuff, but she was having full contractions with no epidural for about 2 hours!! and now after about 1 hour on the new epidural (this one worked) the baby was READY TO COME OUT!!!

We're getting ready to start pushing!!!!

For all of those who are new to the blog, let me answer a few questions for you.

I update the blog in spurts - it's always been my intension to blog everyday, but I've found that what I end up doing is more like everyday for a week, then a month or two(or six) off then everyday for week again... so maybe this time will be different, but don't hold your breath...

I've stopped running - I haven't ran in a VERY long time... but I did buy a trampoline... an exercise trampoline... I've been doing that for a few weeks.... along with some push ups...

any other questions? I'd be happy to answer them.... leave them in the comments....

Alexander Family Reunion 2007

Last weekend Dad, Wanda, Tasha, and I went to our triennial family reunion. It's my Dad's Dad's family (confused? - that's my grandfather on my Dad's side of the family). My Grandfather's Mother had 8 brothers and sisters. The reunion is for the descendants of those brothers and sisters! That's ALOT of people... Of course the vast majority of them don't come... but back in it's hay day we had well over 100, sometimes close to 200 people there! Anyways, we never miss it... This year the Smith part of the family made up over half of the attenders.... here are the pics....

Western Road Trip

Allen and I are in the west this week, We left Nashville on Sunday night at 10:30pm and drove(without stopping) to the Grand Canyon(1630 miles!). We are now in Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation in town called Kayenta. Click here for all the pictures, and stay tuned for more updates!

It was not my intention to give out false hope, and let you my faithful blog readers down...

I promise to do better this week. I am off tomorrow morning! And supposedly I'll be off on Monday mornings from now on. again.

This will do wonders for my attitude. For those of you who know me well, you know that working on Monday mornings gives me a bad attitude the rest of the week...

well, before my daily exercise today(I jogged 1 mile in 12 minutes), I decided to just go ahead and get an arm band iPod holder... So I saved my money for the next big thing to come down from the guys at apple... I'm hoping that they come out with some sort of touch screen flash based iPod... Basically the iPhone with out the phone or the internet...

The two miles yesterday took alot out of me... but that didn't stop me from exercising altogether... Also, let me get you opinion on something... My iPod (4G) occasionally skips when I get up to a certain speed jogging. I've already cracked open my old mp3 player once to replace the hard drive in it... I keep waiting for my dream iPod... and sure enough they announced my dream iPod a few days ago... however, I'm a verizon customer, and will be my verizon until summer 2008. So the earliest I'll be getting an iPhone will be summer 2008. What do I do between now and then? I'm thinking of getting a Nano.... what do you think?

I love my mac.... If you're a mac user you might want to familiarize yourself with resetting the PRAM and PMU, This is first time I've had to do this in two years of being a mac user... I think the cause of the crash was a combination of only having 2 gigs free on my hard drive and doing alot of flickr browsing for pictures for our church program... I think that Firefox cached all of the imagines and it ran me out of free space...

Ok, so now is when the real test is starting... Today was a little harder keeping my resolutions.
1. I didn't have time to g sit down and eat somewhere, and by the time I had could leave the office, it was already 1:30 so I was very hungry... But I tuck to my plan... No Fast Food.
2. Exercise... I did have the presence of mind to take extra clothes with me this morning... so I did get in a sort 20min jog/walk at the greenway...
3. this blog... even though I was already in bed I got back up to tell you guys(my loyal readers) that I have completed my resolutions for the day... but even this blog entry wasn't as easy as getting up and opening my laptop... my laptop crashed on me! I'm typing this on my desktop... and now I will go and figure out why my laptop won't restart... I'll keep you updated...

After visiting my friends at Hackett Brothers Automotive, and finding out that my timing chain was about to break, I knew it was time to put the jeep out to pasture... After only two days of looking, I found almost exactly what I was looking for. A Ford F-150 extended cab with bucket seats and the 4.6 liter V8.

Another Monday morning rolls around, another new week, another pretend-day-off (I don't work at FOX on monday morning...) I just wanted to take a moment and reflect on the fact that my schedule has become manageable. Not just manageable but enjoyable!! It's been a long time since I've been able to say that. But now that I think about it, I've been able to say that for a few months now. This is very good news for me. Next week we will be celebrating Independence Day. As we did last year, we will have a party at our home. This will be the third time we've done this... It's great because where we live, they put up a ton of little fireworks stands up a few weeks before the holiday.... At dark we get this great 360 degree fireworks show... Last night Tasha and celebrated our 5 year anniversary, we went to PF Chang's, then to Starbucks, then to the Frist Center for the Egypt Exhibit, after that we capped off our evening at Krispy Kream for a "fresh" glazed donut.
I love my wife so much. She is my best friend, and I couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else....

I'm a little behind in my blogging....
My new phone..
The last few hours of our peaceful vacation was interrupted, when we found out that our phones had been turned off AGAIN!!! I won't bore you with all of the details, but for the last fews months we have been having our phones turned off by Sprint every 10 days... What happens is Tasha goes to pay our bill, she tells the person, "I've got two accounts in my name, the one with my number and my husband's number on it, and another account with my Mother's number on it. I want to pay the bill with my number and my husband's number, here is the account number for that account..." So the Sprint employee does what any other Sprint employee would do, and credits the OTHER account. So a few weeks later our phones get turned off. So Tasha calls them up, together they figure out what the girl at the Sprint store had done. Now here's where it gets annoying... The girl on the phone tells Tasha that she can't fix the problem... so one higher up the food chain has too... all she has the authority to do is turn our phones back on for 10 days. But she assures Tasha that they will have the problem sorted out by then... 10 days later... Our phones get turned off. We repeat this stupid song and dance 4 MORE TIMES. Last friday Tasha had all she could take... We have been looking to switch to Verizon, but I was still waiting for the right phone to be released... you know, a phone I don't mind being stuck with for two years.... Enter the Treo 700p.

I love it!!! Being able to sync up my contacts and calendar is more than worth the small fortune I payed for it... I'm still working out all the bugs, but so far... I LOVE IT!!!

My iPod is healthy again!!!!
I got the replacement hard drive in the mail today....

So I tore of the packing and connected it to my iPod...

then to the computer....

The iPod fired right up but the hard drive had some one else's library on it...

A quick restore (after looking through Evan's music of course...) and I was all back to normal... with the music and podcast that I love all ready for tomorrow's commute...

iPod update...

well the 20gig hard drive I was bidding on went up to $84.00!!! I didn't want to pay that much, so I'm still with out an iPod... This is VERY upseting... I've been listening to Podcast on my laptop while driving to work... it works but I can't operate it while I'm driving.... I guess I'm either going to have to pay $70+ on getting my iPod fixed or just buy a new one...

well, my beloved friend has taken very ill... I have decided to take heroic measures to bring it back to life...
Late last week my iPod froze while syncing. I've had this happen before so I wasn't all that worried. But after running through "the 5 R's" several times... And a trip to the Apple Store to talk it over with a genus... I decided to do what any other engineer type would do... crack it open and try to fix it myself... I've bided on a hard drive on ebay... I'll keep you updated....

well I've had protools for about two weeks now... I LOVE IT... This isn't the first time I worked in ProTools for long periods of time, but it is the first time I've used it on a completely adequate computer (Dual 1.8 G5 2GIGs of RAM). And with the new M-Audio ProjectMix. I've completed one Ani DeFranco mixdown, and I'm half way through the Encounter mixdown (worship concert at my church). I'd forgotten how much I love to mix in post-production.... I need to find a way to do this all day, everyday...

Another date night with my wonderful wife.... we had pizza outside across the street from a miniature golf course then went over a played a round.... it's not importan who won, seeing how they won by 7 stokes and gaining one hole in one....

Next weekend we will be taking a weekend getaway to Gatlinburg, we'll be staying in our favorite little cabin village and then going hiking in the mountains on Saturday... many pictures and video to come.... It won't get here soon enough....

So I got a myspace account to see what all the fuse was about... It did find one old friend from my El Chico days.. but that was pretty much it. Of course I didn't look for people that long, I kind of see it as a place to find people from your past, of course just like everything else on the net, it's very dangerous.... but mostly because there are very dangerous people in world, not because myspace is bad... I will use this blog and my flickr as my little corner of the internet...

Learn your phone numbers!!!

Recently sprint gave me a replacement phone and they couldn't copy my numbers over.. At first I was outraged, the thought of having to reprogram all of those numbers into my new phone seemed like an insurmountable task. I don't have a nice phone, so don't even ask about why I don't sync it with my computer... But here's the deal, when I was in high school, I knew EVERYone's number. Old friends, new friends, ALL of my friends, numbers. By heart. After getting my numbers taken from me, I realized that I didn't know some of my closest friends' phone numbers. So I decided to learn them... all of them. Sure I have my address book on my mac, to refer back to, but I have learned most of my friends' phone numbers. The only number I have in my phone is my wife's, and that's just in case something ever happened to me who ever had found my phone would know who to call. I suggest everyone do this. It's a good exercise in memory.

Plumb came on the show last week with her band, they were great!!! She was celebrating the release of her latest record: Chaotic Resolve. The day of the release it went to number 44(!) on iTunes.
